Pedro Resende

Pedro Resende was born in Espinho, a small coast city in the north of Portugal. After getting a Biology degree at Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto, he started his science career at Instituto de Patologia e Imunologia Molecular da Universidade do Porto (IPATIMUP) where he worked initially on a population genetics project and latter on oncobiology.
With a strong desire to experience a life abroad, he moved to the UK to work at Pfizer’s European Headquarters for Research and Development. Member of GABBA’s 11th edition, Pedro did his PhD research at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, in San Diego, California, and at University of California, Los Angeles.
Sports have always played a crucial role in his life. As a teenager he was 5 times national champion in volleyball with his local hometown team (Sporting Clube de Espinho) and was elected for Junior National Team. Now he spends most of his free time in the water surfing, but he also does capoeira, a Brazilian martial art.
Pedro came back to Portugal in 2013, and he is a postdoctoral researcher at IBMC.INEB, in the city of Porto.
