Bruno Fontinha

ADVISORY BOARD, PRESIDENT

Bruno Fontinha is a lad who came to the world in the southernmost city of continental Portugal, called Faro. Even before finishing his Biochemistry degree from the Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon, he started developing interest in the field of Neurobiology during an internship at Instituto de Medicina Molecular (IMM) in Lisbon. As member of GABBA’s 11th edition he had the chance to pursue his initial focus on the topic of neuronal connectivity in the mammalian brain, by doing his PhD research at the Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna, Austria.
Currently, he is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max F. Perutz Laboratories (MFPL), also in Vienna, where he tries to characterize the role of non-visual opsins in vertebrate neuronal function.
All over these years, major other interests have shaped his character. In highschool he was a member of an amateur theatre group, which pushed him to travel through Portugal, Spain and France while impersonating other characters and reciting Poetry.
In his free time, Bruno puts a lot of self-energy on reading as many books as he can, namely about History and Politics.
He is completely obsessed with quality tv-series and one day would like to ride a Starfighter in the outer space. Also, Bruno is a regular yoga practitioner.
