André Sousa

ADVISORY BOARD, VICE-PRESIDENT

André Sousa received his B.S. in Biology from the University of Porto Faculty of Sciences. After obtaining his degree, he worked for 2 years as a research assistant in the ECOTOX Lab at the Interdisciplinary Center of Marine and Environmental Research.
He was then accepted to be part of the 11th edition of the GABBA program at the University of Porto. He did his Ph.D. studies in the Sestan Lab, at the Yale University School of Medicine, in the field of developmental neuroscience and brain evolution. His research focused on investigating which genes are expressed in several regions of the brain throughout development across species, and how the differences in expression levels of some of these genes may account for the observable structural differences.
He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in neurobiology, at the Yale University School of Medicine, studying human-specific expression patterns during brain development. In parallel with his scientific career, André cultivates his passion for music, cinema, history, and cooking.
